Capt  Ron is a NAUI Nitrox Instructor.  It
doesn't matter which agency gave you your
open water certification.  Try Nitrox with Capt
Ron, if you want the certification, simply take a
short multiple choice question test at the end
    of the charter.

  • A NAUI Nitrox certification card is accepted
    everywhere for recreational diving.
  • Nitrox breathes exactly like air.
  • Your current dive equipment is compatible
  • A 10 year old child can pass a Nitrox test!
  • Nitrox is simply man made air with more oxygen
  • Nitrox is for beginner divers too!
  • If you can multiply and divide with a calculator,
you can handle Nitrox (sorry there is some 6th
    grade math involved)

          Nitrox Facts
The short and skinny of why you should dive
    Nitrox is this:

  • Nitrox allows you to spend more time diving
under water, up to 150% longer!
  • Nitrox allows you to have shorter service
interval times before your next dive!
  • Nitrox saturates your tissues with oxygen and
can leave you feeling refreshed after a dive,
as opposed to air which can leave you feeling
    drained!
Let's compare bottom time between Nitrox and
plain air. You can purchase Nitrox in almost
any percentage of oxygen between 22%-40%,
but the two most common mixes are 32% and
36%, you will learn why most divers use these
particular mixes later on in class.
Based off of standard dive shop mixes of 32%
& 36 %, these are the dive time increases
    when using Nitrox
Diving on air @ 60' gives 55 minutes
    Diving on Nitrox @ 60' gives 100 minutes= 80%
    increase in dive time
Diving on air @100' gives 22 minutes
    Diving on Nitrox @100' gives 40 minutes=  85%
    increase in dive  time
Diving on air @110' gives 15 minutes
Diving on Nitrox @110' gives 30 minutes =
    100% increase in dive time
Diving on air @130' gives 08 minutes
    Diving on Nitrox @130' gives 20 minutes= 150%
    increase in dive time

When comparing costs, the average air fill is
$8.00, the average Nitrox fill is $12.00, Nitrox
wins hands down in pennies per minute, not to
mention the fact that you will paying $70-150
for a dive charter trip and the captain only
gives you one hour to off-gas in between the
first and second. One hour is the charter dive
industry standard and few make exceptions.
They are operating a seasonal business and
trying to squeeze every penny they can. The
longer you off-gas, the more time you have on
    your next dive.
    Example:
If you dove on air to  a depth of 100' for 25
minutes on your first dive and you were only
given one hour surface interval to off-gas
before your second dive to 70',  you would
only be allowed to dive for 8 minutes on your
second dive. If you dove a standard 36 mix
Nitrox at a depth of 100' for 25  minutes on
your first dive with the same surface interval
of one hour, on your second dive to 70' you
would have 30 minutes to dive! Now doesn't
    that make cents$
The fact is you get the most dive time for your
dollar with Nitrox. I buy prepaid Nitrox fills
from my local dive shop and pay less than
$6.00 per fill. At that price, I doubt they are
making much profit if any. Why do they do it
then? Because they know I'll be back to buy
everything else from them and that's fine with
me. We must support our local dive shops
when ever we can, without them we have no
air or Nitrox and they don't stay in business off
    of selling  gas fills
You can take this course along with your basic
open water certification or after. You do not
need to actually dive with Nitrox if you are
already a certified diver to become Nitrox
certified because there is no physical
    difference in using it.
